Volume Initialization Rate

Amazon EBS now offers Provisioned Rate for Volume Initialization, enabling faster and predictable initialization of EBS volumes from snapshots

Users can set a constant initialization rate between 100 MiB/s and 300 MiB/s to retrieve data from EBS snapshots to EBS volumes

Users can specify the initialization rate when creating volumes via the EC2 launch wizard, EC2 launch templates, or AWS CLI commands

Supports initializing hundreds of volumes and instances simultaneously, ideal for workflows like application recovery and volume copy for testing

This feature allows the creation of fully functional EBS volumes in a predictable time, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing manual workload

VolumeInitializationRate parameter can be included in AWS CLI commands like run-instances and create-volume to set the desired rate

Charges are based on the snapshot size and the chosen initialization rate, with details available on the Amazon EBS Pricing page
